I came to metal work from a background in sculpture, painting and printmaking. I have brought many of the sensibilities of these media to my current work.
My jewelry is primarily made with precious metals, using precious and semiprecious stones as punctuation marks to enhance the overall form. Still, I find myself drawn to incorporating materials less commonly found in traditional jewelry, and these foreign elements sometimes lead me in non-jewelry directions. Tools that spend enough time with me at my bench often become the inspiration for, or physically part of a piece. The mechanics of metalwork are a joy to me, from the sequential nature of building to my more precise hopes of making something work on a variety of levels.
